Warm weather! Farmers markets! Fresh flowers!
Remember my failed gardening attempt when I threw out my entire garden last year because it refused to produce even a single vegetable?? Me neither – that’s why I’m right back at it again this year. What is it about spring-time that fosters blind optimism?
Thanks to my “ohmygod I want everything” enthusiasm at the farmers market I was off to a running start by the time the weather reliably crept above 70 degrees. Rosemary, basil, and parsley seem like easy-enough projects. Ashley swears anyone can grow rosemary… just dump it outside somewhere and it becomes a great big plant. I can do that! Fortunately a woman scared me away from cilantro with the warning that it doesn’t like our hot summers and would die out in the next few weeks (not to mention my previous track record with cilantro… where I’ve proven plenty of times myself that it does in fact wimp out before the real heat hits).
I’ve wanted to try out okra for a while now, and thanks to some garden blogging enthusiast, I’ve decided it’ll be super easy and delicious. I’m going to try it out from seeds as well as give it a shot with Home Depot’s version that’s already sprouted. I get the feeling I’ll need all the help I can get.

Then I got straight up cocky about tomatoes. “Com’on, any Southerner can grow tomatoes, it’s not hard!” I bought three different varieties. Clearly I need three tomato plants taking up my back porch. Uh, sorry Jen! (And as a reminder, let’s take a moment to refer back to just how hard it is.).
I also have bell peppers, cucumbers, and green beans to plant. Okay, so I may have gotten a little carried away.
